Liverpool venue Camp and Furnace announce 'The Late Wake Club' with first tribute night to Freddie Mercury

A SERIES of monthly music tribute nights will be launched at Camp and Furnace in November.

The Late Wake Club kicks off on Saturday, November 25 with a night dedicated to the larger-than-life Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

Based on a traditional wake party, the event will celebrate the lives and talents of iconic artists who are no longer with us through DJs playing all the greatest hits and some of their musical influences.

On the opening night, as a mark of respect to Freddie, club-goers will receive a free moustache on entry, and can complete their outfits with fancy dress available around the venue, as well as glittering up in the 'Jazzification Station'.

Bespoke cocktails and drinks will be created in honour of Freddie, including the appropriately named 'Bohemian Raspberry.'

A boozy tea will also be served in best china - and the venue will be putting on a spread for clubbers with a free finger buffet for all ticket holders.

Fans are even invited to leave their own messages, tributes and favourite memories in a special book of condolences devoted to the night’s artists.

A spokesman for the venue said: “The Late Wake Club celebrates the lives of iconic artists who’s music has played a huge part in all our of lives.

"While it’s based on the idea of a wake, it’s not about being sad - it’s an opportunity for music lovers to pay homage to their heroes and heroines in a fitting and fun way, with a night especially dedicated to their achievements.

"A brand new idea, we’ve been working on the concept of The Late Wake Club on for a long time - we’re very excited about it and know that Camp and Furnace customers will love it.”

As well as the inaugural Freddie Mercury launch event, there are also parties celebrating the works of David Bowie and Amy Winehouse currently being planned.
