Celebrate Liverpool and Ireland's traditional heritage with ten day festival

THE fifteenth Liverpool Irish Festival begins this week bringing 10 days of emotion, history and entertainment to the city.

Beginning on Thursday, October 19 the UK's largest festival of Irish art and culture will welcome artists, musicians, filmmakers and politicians to Liverpool.

Celebrating the unique connection between Liverpool and Ireland the festival will boast more than 60 events in its busy schedule in a multitude of venues around the city.

Among the acts eclectic Liverpool folk ensemble Only Child will present a night of emotional music in one of the city's most atmospheric venues St Brides Church on Friday, October 27.

Dave O’Grady and his band Seafoam Green will also return to the event with a special performance in the back-room-ballroom venue at The Vines in an intimate showcase of soulful psych-folk-Americana.

Born out of Manchester's music scene The Breath will perform at Liverpool's Capstone Theatre bringing their Irish folk sound to the masses.

Dundalk's punk poet Jinx Lennon will perform at the Everyman Theatre while an event celebrating women in music from Ireland and Liverpool heads to Liverpool Philharmonic's Music Room.

A new book has also been launched to mark the 60th birthday of Liverpool Comhaltas - an organisation which aims to celebrate and preserve Irish tradition - a new strand has also been launched to tell the stories of women in both Liverpool and Irish history.

The event is sponsored by Arts Council England, the Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Liverpool City Council and Tourism Ireland.

  1. I'll be around to check out the festival for sure. Asides from food festivals, music festivals are my favorite and I can't believe The Breath will be playing as well. I'm going to round up my friends and go!
