Out for release on November 10 courtesy of Verve/Decca Records, the superbly concocted track can be heard on the upcoming film based upon actor, writer and director Peter Turner's memoir about his relationship with Academy Award winning actress Gloria Grahame in Liverpool.
Elvis was keen to write a song for the project due to his fascination with Gloria's life story and during a show at the London Palladium, the film's producers were said to be delighted and surprised to see Gloria's picture appear on a screen during Elvis' performance of 'Church Underground'.
He said: “It must have been quite startling for producers Barbara, Colin and Paul.
“'You Shouldn’t Look At Me That Way’ is a song dealing with two people who have a lot of secrets.
"They were in a relationship and perhaps had difficulty seeing each other as they really were.
"All lovers have secrets.
"One lover has some vanity but also a lot of vulnerability.
"The title really came from that. It could refer to a seductive gaze but also a plea not to be judged.”
Directed by Paul Mcguigan, the film follows the playful but passionate relationship between Peter and the eccentric Gloria in 1978 Liverpool.
What starts as a vibrant affair between a legendary femme fatale and her young lover quickly grows into a deeper relationship, with Peter being the person Gloria turns to for comfort.
