Music Manual predictions: Artists to watch closely in 2017

After a whirlwind year of celebrity deaths including notable artists like David Bowie, Maurice White, Prince, George Michael, Rick Parffit and Leonard Cohen the music industry can seem like a very bleak and dark business but with the loss of past legends come the new saviours, the music makers who will make their own path and bring us the future.

Here is The Music Manual's stars for 2017.

Crimsons

Manchester's gothic pop kings started out in 2015 releasing their debut, I Bring The Rain in the Summer, they sound like Tim Burton and Jack White decided to barf some flower power with the obligatory rock'n'roller twist. Their latest track, Idle Ways is a somewhat darker then the debut in its own wayward sound - who knows what they'll bring out the bag next.

Acadian Driftwood

Liverpool collective Acadian Driftwood made up of Bobby Johnson and John Ellwand are the next big thing from Merseyside making swampy blues hymns that make you squeal. Latest release, Working Title EP gained momentum on the local circuit organically and in the new year they're set to host Mellowtone's open mic night at the Magnet.

Kashmere

Manchester based foursome Kashmere have become this treasured piece of Manc music after releasing track, Blow Your Mind back earlier this year constantly playing mini festivals and becoming the band you just have to have on your lineup. With the release of new single Porcelain on January 13 Kashmere are ready to explode in the new year.

Katie Mac

Liverpool based songstress Katie Mac has just got back from a whirlwind UK tour - performing up and down the country attracting listeners to her wholesome, guitar based song. With lungs like hers that many artists should fear tracks such as Eye To Eye which show off the power of Katie's natural burgeoning ability.

The Shipbuilders

What a year Liverpool band The Shipbuilders have had. Being picked by the Anfield Wrap's John Gibbo and releasing fan favourites such as Feeling In My Pocket proves that this latest Mersey craze must be gaining some significant speed. Big gigs like the Pretty Green Weekender and headline shows at the Buyers Club and EBGBs well and truly put a shipbuilder stamp on Liverpool's live scene.

Mad Alice

Keeping people waiting long enough for their arrival Liverpool blues-punk trio Mad Alice are ready to crash land into 2017. Watching them live is something else, seeing their strong bond unfold on stage is like watching a mythical being coming back to life. With television appearances, a plethora of gigs and the release of debut track Ball & Maze the threesome have had a busy but slow-burning year.

Nick Ellis

A success story from Liverpool this year has been Nick Ellis - a troubadour that boasts a ridiculous amount of power within his music. It's his natural ability to create art that captures everyone - recording his EP Grace and Danger and LP, Daylight Ghosts at Liverpool's St George's Hall, the history seeps in tracks such as Cooler Than Cupid, Carillon and Lovers In July.

Lucille Furs

Changing their name from Shah Jahan late this year, the Chicago fivesome love to break boundaries with their trippy psychedelic sound and latest track Does it Matter to You - recorded at drummer, Brendan Peleo-Lazar's home studio Seven Levels Music - compliments past songs In Samsara and Baby Blaise but creates a darker, deeper world exploring sub-genres. A UK visit can't come soon enough.

The Chadelics

Just off tour from supporting Cast and Inspiral Carpets, Manchester's teen poets, The Chadelics released new single Love Me Again with a sound that rings true with inspirations such as Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan - even folding in some Stone Roses. There's definitely something here to look out for.

Heavy Tiger

Sweden's answer to Charlie's Angels Heavy Tiger are a fierce all-claw girl band who use the likes of Thin Lizzy and KISS to help channel their music. Starting out more than 6 years ago, their latest album Glitter will be released on March 24 just a few months after their most electrifying offering yet Devil May Care.

RITUALS

Edinburgh based Rituals are one of the latest bands to be snapped up by Wirral based label, Skeleton Key Records. Their voodoo black magic sound gives off a tasty new rock'n'roller era that has been conjured up at Liverpool's infamous Parr Street studios. Once part other musical projects such as The Merrylees this year spawned the potion to get the four-men back into business with the release of track, Black River.

The Bad Touch

Performing their debut show in Edinburgh's Voodoo Rooms in May, The Bad Touch are yet to put out full tracks online but snippets of tracks such as My Baboon Heart send so many good signals through the Manual radar - a typical rock'n'roll sound with kooky keys adding a solid psychedelic twist. There's no doubting that this band is going to be the one to rise quickly through the new year.

Bishop Briggs

L.A based Sarah McLaughlin AKA Bishop Briggs has had a huge year in the music industry, quickly becoming an online sensation after appearing on Apple's Beat Radio with Zane Lowe and starring on Jimmy Fallon. Also topping Spotify's US Viral Chart this fierce lady will appeal to fans of PJ Harvey and Bjork. Check out her latest track, Wild Horses.

Louise Quasie-Woode

Huddersfield born songwriter Louise Quasie-Woode has spent her recent years making Liverpool her home, releasing debut track Broken earlier this year off the back of studying music at the University of Liverpool. Now an integral part of the city's acoustic scene, Louise possesses spine-chilling vocals that break into a naturally raw sound. New material and future gigs are a must for Louise.

Paves

After several names and reshuffles, Paves have finally settled in 2016 creating music so good Fred Perry love them, This Feeling can't stay away and voted 2015's New Band of the Year on Cultured Vultures this foursome pay their dues to the sixties chirping to bands such as The Rolling Stones.

Nachthexen

Fierce Sheffield foursome Nachthexen have adopted the name given to female soviet night bombers by the Nazi party and just love making people squirm with their addictive, alienated punk sound. Their self-titled EP explored a concoction of brutally honest opinions, feasting off barbarous intentions that pollute past experience with tracks such as F*ck The Diet and Cheer Up Love.

Cabbage

IGGY Pop gyrating in a bath of politicians blood, smearing anarchist signage all over images of the Queen best sum up Manchester band Cabbage. Signing to 13 Artists at the beginning of the year the fivesome are a bunch of satirical slut drops and punky ideologies that people cannot get enough of. After a whirlwind of a year, 2017 will be the making of this band who are going on the road courtesy of BBC introducing with The Shimmer Band and April in the coming months.

Post Animal

Chicago based collective, Post Animal create a futuristic psych fuzz similar to that of King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard with their own dizzy twist which involves layers and layers of clever production, sweet vocal harmonies and zany synths. Track, When I Get Home saw the band propel to big things amongst their busy live schedule. We want more!

Seprona

Liverpool foursome Seprona have been round the city for a couple of years now but this year has seen a sudden rise to the top getting support for their latest single How Much Time on BBC Radio 2. Staying a bit quieter in the latter half of 2016, the lads have been working away on new material which is ready to blow everything else out the water.

Bridie Florence

Brighton babe Bridie Florence has had a turbulent year releasing EP Mind In The Making in April and gigging almost ever since - there's not a hot festival line-up we've seen without the presence of Bridie and her too cool for cats sound. A futuristic bubble of simplistic songwriting and slowing vocals are heart-wrenching for listeners who are addicted to her sweet sound. Fitting perfectly with the likes of Bill Ryder Jones, Bridie Florence is onto a winner here.
