Van Morrison and Shane MacGowan to perform at Liverpool Feis 2018

A MUSIC festival celebrating Liverpool's Irish heritage will be heading the city's world famous waterfront in July.

The Feis from the founder of the world famous Fleadh will be bringing some of the biggest names in Irish music to the city centre for the biggest celebration of Irish culture Liverpool has ever seen.

On Saturday, July 7 Van Morrison will headline the festival at the Pier Head alongside The Pogues front-man Shane MacGowan, Imelda May, Damien Dempsey, Chieftans, Dublin Legends (The Dubliners), The Coronas plus many more.

The festival forms part of the city's events programme celebrating ten years since it was crowned European Capital of Culture.

Many families across Liverpool have descendants from Ireland - more than 75% of the city's population have Irish decent.

Event organiser Vince Power said: "I’m proud and delighted to bring The Feis to Liverpool, a great city with such strong ties to Ireland.

"I have always wanted to do an Irish music festival here. The Pier Head is the perfect location because of its powerful and emotional significance.

"We have a fantastic line-up and this event will bring together the finest, most celebrated Irish musicians in a marvelous festival atmosphere.

"I would like to add my sincere thanks to Liverpool City Council and Mayor Joe Anderson, who saw the strength of the idea immediately and have been so supportive.

"This is the biggest line-up of Irish artistes Liverpool has ever seen."

Other artists taking to the stage include The Hothouse Flowers, Foy Vance, Aslan, Finbar Furey, Hudson Taylor, The Stunning, Nathan Carter, Sharon Shannon, Mary Coughlan, Jack Lukeman, Mundy, Therapy? and Clare Sands.

Assistant mayor and cabinet member for culture, tourism and events councillor Wendy Simon said: "The Feis brings together two of this city’s greatest passions – music and Ireland.

"This is a wonderful package – an exciting and authentic line-up in the stunning surroundings of our World heritage waterfront – makes this the perfect addition to our festival calendar."
