WATCH: First trailer for Morrissey biopic 'England Is Mine'

THE trailer for a film biopic 'England Is Mine' about Smiths front-man Steven Morrissey's early life in 1970s Manchester has been released.

Played by Jack Lowden - Morrissey is portrayed as an introverted, uncompromising teenager who finds himself frustrated with his working-class existence.

His dreams of a music career are being dampened by his job at the local tax office Morrissey finds his calling in the city's underground gig scene where he meets artist Linder Sterling played by Jessica brown Findlay who encourages to him to make his dreams reality.

Directed by academy award and BAFTA Award nominated Mark Gill and produced by Baldwin Li and Orian Williams the film will have its world premiere at the closing night of this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival on July 2.

Catch England Is Mine in cinemas from August 4.
