First wave of artists for Sound City 17 - Happy 10 years in business!

LIVERPOOL Sound City have released the first wave of artists for their tenth anniversary to an array of applause from fans.

With two stand-alone birthday shows; The Human League on Thursday, May 25 and John Cale on Friday, May 26, Saturday and Sunday welcome a solid line-up of sterling bands that appeal to so many people who go to the event year-on-year.

Saturday's headliners Metronomy will be joined by the likes of The Kills, Slaves, Peaches, Carl Barat, The Hunna, The Japanese House, Fickle Friends, Pumarosa, The Magic Gang, Pale Waves, Touts, Be Charlotte and JUDAS.

Sunday's headliners, making a re-appearance at the festival, indie legends The Kooks are sharing the line-up with White Lies, Local Natives, Milburn, !!! (CHK CHK CHK), The Sherlocks, Cabbage, She Drew The Gun, The Vryll Society, The Shimmer Bamd, April and Paris Youth Foundation.

After the announcement The Human League wrote on Facebook: "We are very proud and pleased to announce that we are headlining the 10th Anniversary Sound City Festival in Liverpool on Thursday 25th May 2017."

On the other hand, there were some very excited responses from the younger groups...

The Hunna said: "We told you we'd be back... Liverpool  🙌🏼"

April added: "Hugely overwhelmed and flabbergasted to announce that we'll be appearing at this years Liverpool Sound City! 💥💥‬ YESURRRR!!!"

One of the hottest bands to make their way to the top last year, Cabbage said: "We are very delighted to share with you our blessed return to Liverpool Sound City. Although judging by this poster, it's a damn shame we are most unlikely to be at the other days such as Friday due to our relentless tour schedule but HAVING SAID THAT, we will do our best in producing some hard graft goods on Sunday.

"Nothing beats being in the land of Scouse stew, we will prevail!"

The Kooks added: "So excited to be headlining the Sunday bill for Liverpool Sound City!"

The rumour mill has already begun for who will join John Cale's one-off European show presenting The Velvet Underground and Nico. Odds are on The Kills and Carl Barat - a duo who is so heavily influenced by the work of the Velvet Underground and a musician who has already starred with Cale back in Paris with Peter Doherty - perhaps another contender to join the slot.
