First acts revealed for Africa Oyé 2020

Les Amazones D'Afrique
THE first three live acts for this year's Africa Oyé have been revealed.

Returning to Sefton Park for its 28th annual event on 20 and 21 June, organisers of the award-winning festival of music and culture have revealed pan-African supergroup Les Amazones D'Afrique, Ghana's Santrofi and Cameroonian songstress Valerie Ekoume.

A voice for gender inequality, FGM and ancestral violence, Les Amazones D'Afrique made a huge impact with debut album République Amazone in 2017 - campaigning for change for women across the world.

Next up is Ghanaian collective Santrofi, made up from a group of talented young musicians, they create a soulful blend of dance-guitar and funk.

French-Cameroonian singer Valérie Ekoumè's career began in 2004 when she toured with Manu Dibango and the Soul Makossa Gang and for her latest album, she has teamed up with producer, arranger and drummer Guy Nwogang, digging deeper into her Cameroonian roots.

Africa Oyé will bring plenty of live music, DJs, dance, workshops, food stalls and traders to the park for a two-day takeover, completely free of charge from 12.30pm to 9.30pm each day.

Also returning as part of the event will be the Oyé Active Zone, providing free workshops across the whole weekend, suitable for all ages.

DJ stages Trenchtown and Freetown are also expected to make a grand return.

The news of the line-up reveal follows a call to action from organisers who are stressing the importance of donations to keep the festival alive and thriving, ensuring it remains free entry.
